Election season has officially begun, as candidates in Wake County began filing to run Friday at the Wake County Office Building. The filing period will end at noon July 19.

More than 20 candidates had arrived by the time registration opened at noon. Each candidate was required to complete a 15-minute filing process.

Raleigh City Councilman Randy Stagner is running for re-election in District A, and was the first candidate to complete the registration process on Friday.

Another Friday filier was Tom Benton, running in District 1 for the Board of Education. He was appointed to the seat earlier this year.
