West St.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When:\u00a0<\/strong>Friday and Saturday, September 14 &#8211; 15 (10:00AM &#8211; 3:00PM)<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighdla\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1090082.jpeg\" rel=\"lightbox[704]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-705 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighdla\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1090082-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighdla\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1090082-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighdla\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/P1090082.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Forty different volunteers have shown up on the 200 block of S. West Street in the last two weeks, all with the same goal in mind: to prepare 200 feet of facade on the Triangle Transit-owned Dillon Supply Co. building for a mural celebrating how we move forward together.<\/p>\n<p>When artists Jason Craighead and Patrick Shanahan envisioned the design that begins with children\u2019s handprints and explodes into a skyburst of flying machines before settling back down into rolling North Carolina countryside, they had no idea of the sparks that would fly even before the first little fingers touched the mural.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sparkcon.com\">SPARKcon<\/a>\u00a0suggests, these are sparks of imagination, connection and empowerment&#8230;\u00a0 BEST workers were joined on one day by a man with thirty years of painting experience who couldn\u2019t deny his urge to show us tips on how to prime the crannies of the brick.\u00a0 Three volunteers had just moved to Raleigh and saw this work as a way to network.\u00a0 In other cases, friends who had lost touch with each other found themselves drawn by a common goal, to make a difference in their community.\u00a0 Many returned day after day so that the wall would be ready in time for the children to come.<\/p>\n<p>And now we\u2019re ready.\u00a0 We invite you to bring your children of any age to make handprints and create body tracings that will seed this mural that honors our passage from individual dreamer to community transformation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<em>REASONS TO DROP BY:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This is an opportunity for families to encourage their kids to use their creativity to make a lasting mark on their community.<\/li>\n<li>Triangle Transit will answer questions about their plans for the future affecting the Warehouse District and the region.<\/li>\n<li>Entertainment by local artists and musicians<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/raleighemergingspaces.com\/contact-us\">Sign up to volunteer for BEST<\/a>!\u00a0 We need your skills to continue this work!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the BEST Dillon Project visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.raleighemergingspaces.com\">www.raleighemergingspaces.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SPARKcon\u00a0and\u00a0BEST Raleigh\u00a0are joining to invite children of all ages\u00a0to come and make their mark on downtown Raleigh!
