On Friday, we’ll run “Part II” — which is really just the standard look at the previous week’s renovation permits.

It turns out, we didn’t miss much. For example: of the 90 or so relevant permits issued during the week of July 17, 37 were for the upgrade of 81 water heater closets at the Lexington on the Green Apartments.

Located on N. New Hope Road near the Louisburg Road/Capital Boulevard split in North Raleigh, the complex will apparently be spending $480,075 for this crucial project. Night Owl Contractors will be handling the work, which will presumably be conducted between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m.

James Borden / Raleigh Public Record

The Sheraton in Downtown Raleigh

Another 13 permits were granted to the downtown Sheraton hotel on Salisbury Street, which is spending just over $1 million to conduct corridor and guest room improvements. The work, being handled, by First Finish, Inc. is described as “A-1 Construction for R-1 occupancy.” The permits cover renovations on the 5th-17th stories.

Of the 37 permits remaining, the largest was a $630,000 interior renovation at the offices of Gynecology & Laparoscopic Surgeons, PC on Raven Ridge Road. Cadco Construction is handling the work.

The medical facility is apparently run by a guy named Dr. Michael Law, which sounds more like a character on a high-concept TV show than a real person. I imagine the premise is either, he’s a doctor who dispenses free legal advice to his patients, or he’s a criminal lawyer whose patients are always coming to him for off-the-books treatment of a gunshot wound. Look at that headshot and tell me you wouldn’t sit there and binge-watch this for a minimum of 12 consecutive hours.

But last week wasn’t all water closets, hotels and medical offices: permits were also issued for a new location of the Metro Diner, once featured on the Guy Fieri show “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.” The Metro will soon be opening in the Fresh Market-anchored Sutton Square shopping center on Falls of Neuse Road.

The chain operates 12 restaurants in Florida, with a handful scattered across other east-coast states, including Pennsylvania and Virginia. In addition to the Sutton Square location in Raleigh, Metro Diners, which features everything from “The Meatloaf Plate” to “Big Bern’s Fried Pork Sandwich” will also be opening shop in Fayetteville.

Venture Construction will be handling this $645,000 job.

The only other renovation really worth noting for now was a $70,000 renovation of The Butcher’s Market in North Raleigh in the Quail Corners Shopping Center on Falls of Neuse Road.

As tempting as the meatloaf found at the Metro Diner may be, if you’re more in the mood for say, dry-aged beef, high-end bacon or maple bourbon steak tips, you can’t do much better than the Butcher’s Market. Plus, Quail Corners is also home to soda & candy specialty shoppe Rocket Fizz in the event you decide you want to pair those high-end meats with a range of high-end root beers and cream sodas.

Butcher's Market

The Butcher’s Market

We take a quick look at some recently issued renovation permits for work ranging from guest room improvements at the downtown Sheraton to $70,000 renovation of The Butcher’s Market in North Raleigh.

[1599
