Watch the interview video below. <\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> I\u2019m Will Huntsberry for the Raleigh Public Record and as part of our Hopscotch interview series tonight we\u2019re talking to Whatever Brains. Tell me a little bit about what you guys have going on for Hopscotch?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt:<\/strong> Are we playing Hopscotch?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rich:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt:<\/strong> We are?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rich:<\/strong> Tell them about it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evan:<\/strong> We have a curated show that we picked out all the bands to play on Saturday night. The Spits, Frustrations, Joint Damage, Burglar $%*#er at Slim\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> What happened with you guys curating this show? Did the people at the Indy just come and ask you to pick out a lineup?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will:<\/strong> Yeah. I think once you play three years in a row they give you a curated bill and no one\u2019s done it yet except for us, and so that\u2019s why we got it.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> How did you guys going about picking who you picked? Who are you excited about seeing on that lineup most?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Everybody:<\/strong> The Spits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rich:<\/strong> I mean all of them equally.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> Hopscotch \u2014 and the show at Slim\u2019s is a perfect example \u2014 brings together bands from all over the place. Is this the kind of thing you ever thought would happen in Raleigh?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Evan:<\/strong> No not at all. I wouldn\u2019t have expected for this to happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will:<\/strong> Yeah. I left town in 2004 or 2005 and then came back and all of a sudden downtown was a thing. Then I was like, \u2018Oh there\u2019s this music festival.\u2019 It sort of made sense, but it\u2019s also not what I thought would happen.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> What\u2019s going on with Whatever Brains right now? Tours, albums?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will:<\/strong> We just finished a tour and we\u2019re going to do another album.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rich:<\/strong> Whenever you can. But we\u2019ve got to learn some more songs. But it\u2019s all written. The next LP is all written. Whenever we can all learn it and find time to record it then we will.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WH:<\/strong> Does it make it difficult to be serious about music but also have day jobs at the same time?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will:<\/strong> I think having day jobs probably makes it easier because we don\u2019t have to rely on the band to do anything other than what we\u2019re doing already.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rich:<\/strong> It\u2019s not make it or break it. It\u2019s just constantly break it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will:<\/strong> We\u2019ve never made a commercial decision ever in our life as a band. And hopefully we won\u2019t ever have to.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whatever Brains&#8217; curated show begins at 8:30.
