Four Raleigh Public Record freelancers were recognized Saturday for their contributions to the online newspaper.<\/p>\n
The Record Board of Directors awarded reporter Dan Riechers \u201cStory of the Year\u201d for his reporting on the Central Prison fuel leak<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n The Board also recognized photographer Hide Terada for \u201cPhotograph of the Year\u201d for one of his images from the one-year anniversary of the Raleigh tornado.<\/a><\/p>\n The awards are issued each year during the staff party. Staff members and editors nominate their choices, which are then voted upon by the nonprofit’s Board of Directors. Each winner receives a certificate.<\/p>\n In addition, Record Editor Charles C. Duncan Pardo issues two awards each year for strong journalism.<\/p>\n The first is the Peter Eichenberger Memorial Award for Fearlessness. This year’s recipient is Ariella Monti, who worked tirelessly to ask difficult questions while reporting on City Council and the Wake County Commission.<\/p>\n
