A new EMS substation is coming to Brier Creek. <\/p>\n

Wake County Commissioners Monday unanimously approved a new lease and design for the Brier Creek EMS substation.<\/p>\n

County staff proposed a new station on the same lot to replace the old one, which has fallen into disrepair. The station is located on Mt. Herman Road in Raleigh. <\/p>\n

The change comes with more than just building costs. The county’s $1-per-month lease for the property expires in September 2014. After that, property owner Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority will begin charging $1,000 per month. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Airport Authority is subject to the direction of the Federal Aviation Administration, which requires that the rental of land for non-aeronautical purposes must be at an amount considered to be fair market value,\u201d explained Mark Forestieri, director of Wake County Facilities Design and Construction.<\/p>\n

The total cost for construction is estimated to be $1.25 million and will be funded by the Capital Improvement Program. Bids will be accepted and awarded this spring. <\/p>\n

Construction should be complete by summer 2015.<\/p>\n

\nIn other business Monday, County Commissioners approved an agenda for their yearly retreat, which will take place in Holly Springs Feb. 14. <\/p>\n

Focus areas include fiscal strength, economic development, economic development and community health. <\/p>\n

Noticeably absent from the agenda is transit<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Commissioner Joe Bryan said this was to be considered a, \u201cbroad topic area,\u201d but did not indicate that it would be discussed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
