A temporary bus service offering travelers a trip from Johnston County to Raleigh will continue through 2014. <\/p>\n

City Councilors Tuesday approved a long-term contract for transit service between Raleigh and Johnston County.<\/p>\n

In December, the Triangle Transit Authority began a temporary contract at the request of \u2014 and in coordination with \u2014 the state Department of Transportation.The contract provides supplemental transit service between Raleigh and Johnston County to address the lane closing associated with the Fortify Forty Project on Interstate 440.<\/p>\n

Mike Kennon, transportation services manager with the city, said the contract extension is purely procedural.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not receive agreements from Triangle Transit in time to have this on the December agenda,\u201d Kennon said, \u201cso we executed a very short-term contract so we could go ahead and start when the project kicked off on Dec. 16.\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of the agreement between the Triangle Transit Authority and NCDOT, each organization is providing three vehicles for the transit service. Because the Triangle Transit Authority is reimbursing the cost, there is no cost to the city for the additional service.<\/p>\n

The bus to Johnston County picks up riders at the Cleveland Crossing Walmart on NC Highway 42 West in Garner and drops them off at Moore Square Station and the stop at Edenton and Wilmington streets. <\/p>\n
