{"id":21489,"date":"2014-05-06T09:12:37","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T13:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raleighpublicrecord.org\/?p=21489"},"modified":"2014-05-06T09:12:37","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T13:12:37","slug":"raleigh-councilors-hold-town-hall-meetings-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/news\/city-council\/2014\/05\/06\/raleigh-councilors-hold-town-hall-meetings-in-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Raleigh Councilors Hold Town Hall Meetings in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some Raleigh City Councilors are moving forward on an earlier promise to begin having informal town hall meetings with their constituents. <\/p>\n<p>District A Councilor Wayne Maiorano announced in April that he would begin scheduling three or four informal meetings with residents in the coming months. He held his first meeting April 30, during which he discussed planning and development, stormwater issues and a potential bike share program. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe actually had nearly a full house,\u201d Maiorano said of the meeting\u2019s turnout, which included Mayor Nancy McFarlane and City Manager Ruffin Hall. Maiorano the panel took questions for more than an hour after a presentation. <\/p>\n<p>Two more meetings have been scheduled, one for May 20 and the other for June 4. Both will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Anne Gordon Center at Millbrook Exchange Park. <\/p>\n<p>Maiorano said that next two sessions will focus mainly on the city\u2019s infrastructure needs including stormwater management, sidewalks, transit, traffic calming and the Six Forks Corridor Study. <\/p>\n<p>District C Councilor Eugene Weeks will be holding his first town hall discussion at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chavis Park Community Center. Weeks has not scheduled any follow-up meetings.  <\/p>\n<p>Longtime District D Councilor Thomas Crowder has been holding informal monthly meetings for years.
