{"id":21523,"date":"2014-05-06T21:12:52","date_gmt":"2014-05-07T01:12:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raleighpublicrecord.org\/?p=21523"},"modified":"2014-05-06T21:12:52","modified_gmt":"2014-05-07T01:12:52","slug":"bryan-beats-puryear-will-face-hutchinson-in-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/news\/2014\/05\/06\/bryan-beats-puryear-will-face-hutchinson-in-november\/","title":{"rendered":"Bryan Beats Puryear, Will Face Hutchinson in November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Incumbent Joe Bryan will be facing off against Democratic challenger Sig Hutchinson for his Wake County Commission seat in the Nov. 4 general election. <\/p>\n<p>The current Republican representative for District 1 defeated challenger Fred Puryear Tuesday with more than 75 percent of the vote. <img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wake_commissionerjoe_bryan2009.jpg\" alt=\"wake_commissionerjoe_bryan2009\" width=\"208\" height=\"258\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-4777\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In an email to the Record prior to Election Day, Puryear said, \u201cMy comment, no matter what the outcome of the election results, is \u2018the people have spoken.\u2019\u201d   <\/p>\n<p>Once the Knightdale mayor, Bryan has been a member of the Board of Commissioners since his election in 2002. Puryear works as a firefighter in Wilson, but has lived most of his life in Knightdale.<\/p>\n<p>All four Republican seats are up for election in November, but only one was contested during the primary. Republicans currently control the Board; one lost seat could shift the balance of power.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioners serve four-year terms. Although they must live in the district that they represent, they are elected at large by voters across the county.<\/p>\n<p>In November, incumbents Phil Matthews, District 2, and Paul Coble, District 7, are facing off against challengers Matt Calabria and John Burns, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomer Rich Gianni will be running against Democrat Jessica Holmes. In the meantime, Gianni has been appointed to the Wake Commission to sit for the rest of Tony Gurley\u2019s term.<\/p>\n<p>Gurley resigned earlier this year to take a job in Gov.
