Good on them, but this reporter would be nervous about doing any kind of construction around a company that&#8217;s likely storing hundreds of gas canisters around the place. It will soon become a Yadkin Bank.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Keeping up with the unique-name theme, Yadkin Bank will be replacing a former First Citizens at 2001 Fairview Road. Permits for $164,688 were issued to WL Bishop Construction.<\/p>\n<p>Originally headquartered in Elkin, North Carolina, Yadkin opened its first bank in 1968. The $315,000 project will be handled by J.R. Leonard Construction, who will also be handling the installation of a Blockbuster Video next door. Kidding.<\/p>\n<p>One Raleigh institution that existed long before the concept of home video was ever invented, Larry&#8217;s Supermarket on Milburne Road, was recently permitted for $7,000 worth of renovations. The work is being done to stabilize the building&#8217;s foundation, and will be handled by a company with the awesome name of Ram Jack.<\/p>\n<p>According to the company&#8217;s website, Larry&#8217;s Supermarket is &#8220;an independent, family owned and operated grocery store in Raleigh, NC. In business since 1958, we have strived to provide excellent customer service as well as quality meat and groceries.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This reporter&#8217;s never been, but quality meat, *and* groceries, in one place? As all this expensive work shows, when healing is your\u00a0business &#8230; business is good!<\/p>\n<p>That being said, just because they&#8217;ve got the money doesn&#8217;t mean the process is easy. In addition to the usual planning commission\/city council approval, hospitals have to file a certificate of need with the state&#8217;s department of health &amp; human services before undertaking any renovation or new construction project.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the process isn&#8217;t too hard \u2014 the abundance of health care related construction projects in recent years is proof of that.<\/p>\n<h6>Tuesday, February 17, 2015<\/h6>\n<p>It&#8217;s Teardown Tuesday here on the Development Beat, and today we say goodbye to a three-family building on St. Mary&#8217;s Street a block from Glenwood South.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_22638\"  class=\"wp-caption module image alignright\" style=\"max-width: 336px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22638\" src=\"http:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/stmarysdemo-336x223.png\" alt=\"220 St. Mary's Street\" width=\"336\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/stmarysdemo-336x223.png 336w, https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/stmarysdemo-771x511.png 771w, https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/stmarysdemo.png 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-media-credit\">Wake County<\/p><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">220 St. Mary\\&#8217;s Street<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 2,319 square-foot property in question, 220 St. Mary&#8217;s, was purchased by an LLC in 2007 for $500,00 and will be demolished for $5,000 by Cecil Holcomb Demolition.<\/p>\n<p>A recent flier listing the property for sale boasts that it offers &#8220;an incredible infill opportunity.&#8221; It says there are preliminary plans for either a town home or a condominium development on the site, which also includes 216 St. Mary&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>216 is owned by a separate LLC, but both share the same Raleigh address. The flier lists the sales price at a little more than $2 million.<\/p>\n<h6><\/h6>\n<h6>Monday, February 16, 2015<\/h6>\n<p>It&#8217;s looking like it might be a slow week here on the Development Beat \u2014 the only new building with a recent permit is a parking garage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22636 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/3600wakeforest-336x223.png\" alt=\"3600wakeforest\" width=\"336\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/3600wakeforest-336x223.png 336w, https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/3600wakeforest.png 623w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a>The garage is part of an overall series of renovations being made to a property once owned by the Wake County Board of Education. The property in question is a 98,780 square foot office building located at 3600 Wake Forest Road.<\/p>\n<p>After the board relocated their administrative offices to Cary in 2010, it continued to pay about $85,000 a year in maintenance on the property. It was purchased by the Local Government Federal Credit Union in March of 2014 for $6.8 million.<\/p>\n<p>The new parking garage is listed on the permits as coming in at\u00a098,409 square feet for a total cost of $1,432,600.
