In the absence of the First Vice\u00a0Chair Christopher Allen, Second Vice Chair Paul Brant presided. The meeting was called to order at\u00a07:15pm.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Parks<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Recreation<\/strong> <strong>Report<\/strong><\/u>: Jud Dunlevy reported that the baseball season was underway;\u00a0basketball registration is open; skateboard activities are planned to begin this summer; active adult\u00a0program being developed and suggestions still welcome; dance and fitness class currently available; line\u00a0dancing being considered; soccer program is being developed. Volunteers are being sought to monitor\u00a0the Raleigh Greenway system. Placing location markers along the trail is currently being worked on.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Police<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>Report<\/strong><\/u>:\u00a0\u00a0 No police report.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Community<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>Services<\/strong> <strong>Report<\/strong><\/u>:\u00a0\u00a0 Kevin Smith reported that all funds available for neighborhood projects\u00a0for this year have been expended; however, applications for the next fiscal year, beginning in July, are\u00a0being accepted.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Minutes<\/u><\/strong>: Secretary Erika Rosenberger noted two corrections to the minutes as published. Both are\u00a0under Neighborhood Reports. One is the correct spelling of Michi Vojt<strong>a<\/strong>\u2019s name and the other is the\u00a0correct zoning application number, which is Z-4-<strong>13<\/strong>. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 With those corrections, the minutes were\u00a0approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Neighborhood<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>Reports<\/strong><\/u>: Michi Vojta reported that neighbors and area residents who opposed Z-4-13,\u00a0development of the six-acre property on the corner of New Hope and Buffaloe Roads, had attended city\u00a0planning meetings, have registered additional names on petitions, have posted a large \u201cNO\u201d sign on the\u00a0property and generally sought support for their opposition to the construction of a 24\/7-hour gas station\u00a0on the property.<\/p>\n<p>WRAL and FOX television news had covered the issue including interviews with\u00a0adjoining home\/property owners. The Raleigh News &amp; Observer published two articles regarding the\u00a0case, clearly citing community opposition to the proposed development.<\/p>\n<p>Vojta encouraged residents to\u00a0keep up the pressure by attending and speaking at city planning meetings, signing and\/or getting others\u00a0to sign petitions (goal is 500 signatures), call or write e-mails to members of the Raleigh City Council\u00a0and Planning Commission, and in whatever means to persuade planners to reject Z-4-13.<\/p>\n<p>It was\u00a0recognized that the property had been zoned as Neighborhood Business in the Future Land Use map\u00a0and there was little chance that could be changed. Therefore, suggestions of alternate and more\u00a0neighborhood-friendly businesses should be offered as the preferred use of the property \u2013 and examples\u00a0of such businesses offered.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Nominations<\/u><\/strong><u> <strong>for<\/strong> <strong>NECAC<\/strong> <strong>office<\/strong><\/u>: The office of Chairperson of the NECAC is vacant. Nominated for\u00a0the Chairperson position was Michi Vojta. Lillian Thompson indicated she would agree to being a vice-chair if Vojta were elected chair.
