{"id":23229,"date":"2015-06-15T21:26:10","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T01:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raleighpublicrecord.org\/?p=23229"},"modified":"2015-06-15T21:26:10","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T01:26:10","slug":"southeast-cac-august-14-2014-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theraleighcommons.org\/raleighpublicrecord\/news\/2015\/06\/15\/southeast-cac-august-14-2014-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"Southeast CAC August 14, 2014 Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Meeting\u00a0of the Southeast CAC was held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Worthdale Community Center at 7:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Meeting\u00a0was called to order by Recording Secretary Tim Sit who presided over the meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"orphans: auto; text-align: start; widows: 1; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Parks, Rec &amp; Cultural Resources report was given by Jermaine Johnson Worthdale Center (Director Carlttea Moore is on medical leave) 2014 Summer Camp has gone smoothly without issues and will end on Friday, August 15th.\u00a0\u00a0 Little League and Mighty Mites are taking applications. Parking lot has been paved Center will be closed for renovations October 2014-January 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will be held October 3rd at Worthdale<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Social scheduled for October 3rd from 7-9 pm will be cancelled<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Officer R.A. Lee of Raleigh Police Department summarized police report that was distributed. He stated that thefts from vehicles have been a big issue over the past month; residential break-ins\/burglaries are also up.\u00a0\u00a0Officer Lee encouraged residents to lock homes and vehicles and do not leave valuables in cars that are visible to passersby or those looking to break in vehicles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Housing &amp; Neighborhood Preservation report was given by Mel May who stressed that the department is there to help.\u00a0\u00a0She asked residents to utilize their service by calling if there is an issue of grass or items that present dangers on properties. Nomination of SE CAC Chair position was open for discussion.\u00a0\u00a0Mr. Sit asked for nominations or volunteers for the position.\u00a0\u00a0 Viola Bullock made motion that Tim Sit be named Chair; motion was seconded and carried.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">RCAC Recognition Award.\u00a0\u00a0No new nominations.\u00a0\u00a0Unless other nominations come forth, Nominees Grocers on Wheels and Latonia Williams will be voted on at next meeting. Dan Sargent, Exec. Director of Rebuilding Together of the Triangle, Inc. gave a presentation. This organization seeks to help preserve and revitalize homes and communities by helping elderly, disabled and families with children live in warmth, safety and independence. He asked people to contact him. Community Specialist Jonathan Edwards talked about the Raleigh Neighborhood Exchange Conference that will be held on September 20, 2014 at the McKimmon Center. This year there will be just one session\u2014no break-outs. There are about 15 volunteers; 235 spots are available\u2014140 are filled.\u00a0\u00a0The cost for conference which includes breakfast and lunch is $10.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Dedicated community volunteers are needed for \u201cincubator discussions\u201d on development and implementation of a plan for Raleigh Business Technology Center.\u00a0\u00a0Volunteers and business leaders will meet on the 3rd and 4th Thursdays in September from 6-8pm at Chavis Memorial Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Councilman Eugene Weeks shared (1) Parks bond referendum is on website; (2) Worthdale Center renovation is part of a phase that was put in place some\u00a0time ago; (3) apologized that, because of council meeting, councilmen were unable to attend Na- tional Night Out events around the city; (4) former Kroger store building on MLK Blvd. is now owned by Art Pope; (5) still fighting battle for sidewalks in Chastain and Barwell; (6) Councilman Weeks Community Day will be held on September 20th at Chavis Park, 12 noon until 4:00 pm. Health Fair, fun, food music for everyone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0in 0in .25in 0in;\">Suggestions\/Discussion of Promotional Items for SE CAC attendees included: T-shirts, pens\/pads, 3-ring binders. Jennifer Mangum volunteered to come up with graphic design. Motion was made to proceed with pricing of (1) pens not to exceed $50.00; binders not to exceed $300.00; T-shirts will be put on hold.
