A singer-songwriter who also can play all the instrumentation if need be. A great vocalist who has the voice of a Caitlyn Cary, yet with the deeper tones of a Joss Stone. It’s a beautiful sound that can lull you and yet energize you at the same time. She has been getting a lot of publicity for her song “Honest Words,” yet I think her best song is “Wreck” It’s simply amazing – and a song you could listen to over and over – with an excellent showcase of her siren-like vocal talents. Come on out and check out this talented vocalist and musician. As an added Bonus, The ever talented Debonzo Brothers open the evening in with their genre-bending musical stylings. These local rockers are best known for fusing many different parts of bluegrass, folk, and roots music with a side of pop in for good measure. Led by Jeff Debonzo, these guys will most certainly get things going for an evening of SOLID music.

The Small Ponds – Pourhouse (Indie/Roots) – 9 p.m. Show/Cover TBA
Local Hero Caitlyn Cary of Whiskeytown and Tres Chicas fame has teamed up with Matt Douglas to form a powerhouse duo that seem to specialize in emotion-laden ballads that shows off their excellent vocals and harmonization. These two entertain with their stage presence and chemistry – oh and a lot of great musical talent. Catch them for a night of great music and real local talent. My Cousin the Emperor opens the show; expect Small Pond to start around 10 or 10:30.

American Aquarium – Slims (Rock/Alt/Country) – 9 p.m. Show/$5 Cover
Raleigh-based rockers bring their brand of Southern Rock/Country to Slims tonight for a night of old-style rocking and ballads. Mix in some funky keyboards and some retro rock. Finally, add a unique voice of BJ – in his sometimes southern country twang and then – a dead ringer for the vocal styles of “The Boss” – as evidenced in Aint Goin to the Bar Tonite. This is great stuff and will be a great night of good ol’ rocking music. Come and check out some of Raleigh’s faves as they set out on their pilgrimage to Austin for SXSW.

Thursday 3/10

Craig Thompson Trio – Hibernian (Folk/Bluegrass) – 10 p.m. Show/No Cover
The Best parts of local Folk Band favorite – Old Habits – Craig and co will have a smaller edition of their powerhouse band to light up the Hibernian for a great night of Folk/Bluegrass music. Craig possesses a great talent for harmonization with his band mates as well as the stage presence to command your attention for long periods of time Did I also mention that he plays a mean upright bass? This is a true treat for anyone who enjoys folk/bluegrass.

The Third Expression – Marsh Woodwinds (Indie/Jam) – 8 p.m. Show/$10 Cover
Three local musicians coming together for a jam session in a venue that just seems to invite that sort of thing. Her unrefined, yet methodical vocal style can pierce right through you and keep you riveted, as evidenced in songs like “For You” & “One Day.” She is a true gem and is gracing Raleigh with her presence while on her way to Austin and SXSW. But this Raleigh/Winston-Salem band is working to change that. Blending traditional Cajun instrumentation with Brazilian percussion and electric Ggitar, this band exposes you to a style of music that is near and dear to most folks on the Upper Gulf Coast and a unique style of folk music. For those not familiar, it’s half folk and half roots with a smattering of washboard and French singing played up-tempo. It’s known for dancing, so, get ready to get indoctrinated, and get ready to dance.
