Padrea’s Sports Cafe will be the latest restaurant to occupy a space at 330 Tryon Road that in the past has housed Larry’s Southern Kitchen, El Cora Mexican Buffet and, judging by an old photo, some kind of Chinese restaurant.<\/p>\n

While Larry’s has since relocated to a new location at 4205 Fayetteville Road, we have no idea what happened to El Cora or the mysterious Chinese restaurant. El Cora in Spanish means The Heart. If you’re looking for love down at the Mexican buffet though, you should probably take a good, hard look\u00a0at your life.<\/p>\n

There’s not much else to say about the new sports cafe; once Ralph Bullock Properties finishes $100,000 worth of interior renovations to the 6,017 square-foot space it should probably make for a nice neighborhood bar\/tavern.<\/p>\n

Also in food news this week: a new Five Guys Burgers will soon be joining the recently permitted McAllister’s Deli at PHDevelopment’s Mattress Firm\/Vitamin Shoppe-anchored shopping center at 5500 Capital Boulevard. Which makes sense, because there’s got to be some kind of guilt factor associated with eating at a place like Five Guys that might inspire a trip to the Vitamin Shoppe. Paladin Contractors will be handling the $253,500 fit-out of the 1,496 square-foot space for the new restaurant.<\/p>\n

The two largest renovation jobs to receive permits last week were parking decks; a $2.5 million interior completion for the Citrix deck at 100 South West Street, and a $499,170 interior completion for the PRA Health Sciences deck at 4131 Parklake Avenue. RCI Builders will be handling the Citrix job and Highwoods Realty.<\/p>\n

Oddly enough, the third-largest permit from last week was titled simple “Cars.” The $370,260 renovation for 12,342 square feet of space will take place at the Six Forks III Office Center at 4800 Six Forks Road.<\/p>\n

I called up the contractor, Spectra Builders, and all they could tell me about the project was that it was an office renovation for a company possibly named or abbreviated as CARS. As you may imagine, any combination of words + “cars” on Google turns hundreds of pages of used and new cars for sale. So this one will have to be a mystery until the place opens up and I can go scope it out. Which I probably won’t do, because honestly, who cares about CARS?<\/p>\n

Lechase Construction received seven permits last week for what appears to be a phased renovation of the Embassy Suites at 4700 Creedmoor across from the Crabtree Valley Mall. Each of the permits was valued at $170,000; no detailed work description was provided.<\/p>\n

Speaking of multi-phased projects,\u00a0TCC Enterprises received six permits all related to corridor renovations at Wake Tech’s Campus at 7300 Success Way. This probably won’t be a very big or time-consuming job: each of the permits was listed at a mere $16,700.<\/p>\n

Only two other renovation jobs really worth mentioning this week: Raleigh Little Theater will be having $148,498 worth of roof repairs done to their property at 301 Pogue Street, and some project at 707 West Street I don’t understand at all.<\/p>\n

Here’s the work description: “7 more helicals piers to stabilize.” It kind of reads more like poorly translated dialogue from an imported video game than a construction project description, but only if you’re an idiot like me. Here’s what 3 seconds on Google gets you: “Helical piers<\/em>, also known as anchors, piles or screwpiles, are deep foundation solutions used to secure new or repair existing foundations.” Oh.<\/p>\n
