The voter ID requirement won’t take effect until 2016, but voters will notice several other changes during this year’s elections. Here’s what you need to know:
Voters are no longer able to register the day of elections. The last day to register to vote or update registration was April 11.
“Unaffiliated” voters must choose which they primary they prefer to vote in, or use a non-partisan ballot for the judicial races.
There will be no more out-of-precinct voting. Voters must vote at the assigned voting location for their precinct. Find your location.
While voter ID requirements won’t take effect until 2016, there are still some voters who will be required to show their ID under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). First-time voters who did not provide either their driver’s license number, their social security number, or a number that could not be validated will be asked to provide identification. This does not have to have to be a photo ID but needs to be something that displays the voter’s name and address: driver’s license or ID card, utility bill, paycheck, bank statement, or a government document.
