Candidate filing in North Carolina begins Monday for the 2012 Election. Wake County voters this year will help elect a president, a new governor and other offices, down to three county commissioner seats and one Soil and Water Conservation District representative.

The primary election is May 8, and with a close race for the Republican presidential primary, North Carolina voters may get to play a role in deciding who will challenge Barack Obama in the November General Election.
Voters across the state will choose nominees in May for governor, lieutenant governor, the state agency heads such as the treasurer and auditor and a host of state legislature seats.
Also up for a vote in May will be the state constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
Three seats on the House of Representatives that include Wake County will be up for election: District 2, currently represented by Republican Renee Elmers, District 4, represented by Democrat David Price, and District 13, where incumbent Democrat Brad Miller will be retiring at the end of this term.
Many elected leaders in Wake County have already thrown their hats in the ring for higher office. Wake County Commission Chair Paul Coble has said he plans to run for District 13 on the House of Representatives. Commission member Tony Gurley has declared his intention to run for lieutenant governor. And the Wake School Board’s John Tedesco plans to run for state superintendent.
