As the Oct. 1 deadline inches closer, Raleigh City Councilors are beginning to sift through potential candidates for the next city manager.
Councilors are reviewing the top 10 candidates during closed session meetings Thursday and Friday.
Human Resources Director Stephen Jones wrote in an email to the Record that search firm Springsted received 80 official applications for the position that was held by Russell Allen for more than a decade.
Jones wrote that the national pool of candidates have, “extensive experience in city/county government management ranging from 16 to more than 30 years,” but did not offer any other specifics.
During this week’s meetings, Councilors will narrow down the top 10 to three to five candidates who will be invited for an interview.
The interviews will take place late next week and include a formal question-and-answer period and a presentation on an emergency scenario, including a mock press interview.
