The Raleigh planning department released its draft Unified Development Ordinance April 6. The public has until June 6 to make comments before a public hearing June 7. In order to understand what’s in this new zoning code, the Record is reading it cover to cover and will be writing about what we find six days a week.
As we try to learn the ins and out of Raleigh’s new Unified Development Ordinance, some resources are emerging to help understand this thing.
The city has a couple resources. First, check out their official UDO site here. The city also has a questions hotline for the UDO, call (919) 516-2669. The Record tested that number last week because we had a couple questions. A friendly member of the planning department picked up and forwarded my call to someone who could answer my questions.
Of course, the city is also publishing the draft on it’s Limehouse portal. The Limehouse portal is also the spot to leave your comments. You can also send comments by email to newcode@raleighnc.gov or snail mail to:

The city will host three open houses to learn about the new code. See the graphic to the right for times and locations.
Another great resource will be the Raleigh UDO website. Phil Poe is a Five Points resident and served on the UDO advisory group. He’s looking for volunteers to help unpack elements of the code.
