New Discipline Policies for Wake Schools

Wake County School Board members approved a massive overhaul Tuesday of the discipline policies, despite criticism from some groups that the policy does not go far enough. The new policies create five levels for violating school policies and call for the creation of a hearing panel to review and approve suspension recommendations.

Blue Plan Test Drive on Track

Efforts at reaching out to black and Hispanic parents in parts of Wake County has increased participation in the Blue Plan test drive. Last Friday, the Wake County Public School officials extended the test drive for the Blue Plan until June 24 due to low participation by parents in Southeast Raleigh and eastern parts of the county.

Wake Schools Testing Student Assignment Plan

Wake County schools have begun a two-week trial of one of two student assignment proposals. Parents can go to the school Web site now to test out the Blue Plan, ranking schools in order of preference. School officials say the information will help determine how the process will work if the plan is implemented.
