Public hearings on tree conservation, floodplain rules July 20

The Raleigh City Council has three public hearings on tap Tuesday, July 20. Councilors will hear public input on changing floodplain, tree conservation and stormwater drain funding rules and a new neighborhood overlay district for Cameron Park. The hearing will be at 6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers on the second floor of the municipal building at 222 W. Hargett St.

Raleigh planners will show off their Union Station idea on the 12th

The Raleigh Planning Department will be holding an open house next Wednesday to showcase its idea for the Raleigh Union Station. The proposal would put a large transit station on the western side of downtown, with regional and city bus service, Amtrak and eventually high-speed rail.

Police offering $15,000 reward for bank robber

The Raleigh and Cary police departments say they think one man is responsible for four bank robberies in the area since November. The two departments along with Wachovia and SunTrust banks are offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

RPD asks for help with missing man

The Raleigh Police Department issued a silver alert yesterday looking for a 24-year-old man with cognitive impairments. Family members last saw William Gingerich at 5 p.m. Wednesday near the corner of Wade Avenue and Ridge Road.

RPD looking for Oberlin Rd. BB&T robber

A man robbed the BB&T at 611 Oberlin Rd. Thursday just before 1:30 p.m. A Raleigh Police Department spokesman said the man gave the teller a note that implied he had a gun. The teller met the robber’s demands and then the man left on foot. The RPD is looking for public help to identify the thief.

City election candidate profiles

Yard signs have started to go up in anticipation of Raleigh’s October 6 city election. The mayoral and all city council seats are up for grabs this year. Raleigh Public Record contributor Chrystal Bartlett sat down with each of the candidates and asked them the same set of questions.
