Raleigh police officer W.R. Byrd on “Major,” left and Officer M.C. Slocum on “Ike” take a break in the children’s park on the corner of East and North Boundary Street. The land for this park was paid for with money from the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood, the organization started 40 years ago to stop the expressway.
