Music Picks for Week (full calendar below)

Tuesday 4/19

Pretty Lights – Raleigh Downtown Amphitheatre (Electronica/Dance) – 6:30 p.m.| $42 Cover

A few years ago very few would have thought this unheard act from Fort Collins, Colo. would have made the leap to the big time, but these guys have done it. They are big time – internationally known and a stalwart in the Summer Music Festival Series.  Mixing Hip-Hop, Dubstep/Mashup, Funk and Electronica, these guys are on the cutting edge of the broader Electronica Genre. This is a real treat and a great opportunity to see some of the best in the biz ply their craft – and it is worth the STEEP cover.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit – Lincoln Theatre (Indie/Southern Rock) – 7:30 p.m. | $17 Cover

Jason Isbell is known for his rock in the true Southern Rock pedigree of Muscle Shoals. One of the best in the business in contemporary Southern Rock with a subtle change from the old in that in addition to hard charging guitars and music, Jason has a wonderful voice that seems to take the edge off and allows him to appeal to a larger audience.  This is going to be a great night of music and a “must see” for those of you in the mood for some solid rock. Hayes Carll & Shovels and Rope open the evening.

Playlow, Cherub – Pourhouse (Electronica/Dance) – 10 p.m. | $13 Cover

The Official Pretty Lights Afterparty features more of the same:  pumpin’ Eletronica on par with the headliners. These guys have been around just a short few years but have established themselves as the class of the Western Part of the state, an area with a great appreciation of this genre (Moog Fest). Get ready to continue the hi-energy dance and jam until the wee hours.

Greenville-based Parmalee have been a stalwart on the local music scene for a couple of years and are at Deep South Friday for a night of great music.

Wednesday 4/13

Peter Lamb & The Wolves – Humble Pie (Jazz) – 8:30 p.m. | $5 Cover – Free with Dinner

Local Jazz Favorites are at Humble Pie for their Bi-Monthly gig that draws a large and loyal following.  You can expect great stuff from Peter, Mark & Co as they change things up and have different musicians sit in thus giving each show a slightly different sound. Expect a large crowd – excellent jazz and lots of dancing!  The perfect recipe for a Wednesday evening!

Beauvilles, Spiralfire, BLORR – Southland Ballroom  – 9:30 p.m. | $5 Cover

This is a simply amazing lineup of Music!  The Beauvilles – darlings of the indie rock world over the past couple of years – are in town with rock/metal band Spiralfire and Psychedelic/Experimental band Bastard Love Child of Rock & Roll (Blorr).  This is like being at a mini Music Festival with these different types of music.  This will be a very interesting night with three solid bands – and certainly has my vote for checking it out. You can’t go wrong here.

Thursday 4/14

Heads On Sticks, The Rosebuds – Tir Na Nog (Indie) – 9 p.m. | Free

This is yet another great show in the “Local Beer – Local Band Series.”  Heads on Sticks haven’t played in the area since the fall and the Rosebuds are a local favorite indie rock band.  This is certainly going to be a great night of music and an eclectic one as well. Between bands there will be a fashion show featuring goods from Revolver Consignment.

Accoustic Manner – The Hibernian (Bluegrass) –  10 p.m. | Free

Raleigh is really fortunate in that we have an abundance of good bluegrass music.  Accoustic Manner is one of these solid bands.  With Hank Smith as their front man on the banjo and vocals, this band blends the elements of folk and bluegrass and mixes original songs along with covers to keep the crowd engaged and entertained.  This is the perfect pick for those of you in the mood for a laid back folk bluegrass evening.

Crystal Stilts headline a loaded show at Kings Saturday. Catch them at 10 p.m.
