Music picks of the Week (full calendar below)
Wednesday 4/27
Electric Soul Pandemic – Pourhouse (Psychedelic/Jam) — 9:30 p.m. | $7
This Greensboro band is yet another from the deep pool of Jam/Psychedelic talent that we have here in the area. ESP – as they are referred to by their adoring fans — tend to use more guitars and electronica than some of the others, which give them a psychedelic/spacey fee. Add in a twist of folk vocals and the result is a long groove session. Easy to listen to, even easier to dance to. Come out and enjoy a great night of music. Yesterday’s Gravy and Mac & Juice open the evening.
Mayday Parade – Lincoln Theatre (Indie Pop) — 9:30 p.m. | $18
One of the hottest Indie Pop bands on the scene right now, Mayday Parade has been the heartthrob of many a hip teenager & college student. If that’s all it was, they would not have been on the “Picks of the Week.” Fortunately, it’s not. This is a solid group of musicians who have hard-driving, yet balanced music and with excellent vocals and harmonization that really gives the impression of polished and professional. The other huge benefit this group has is that they have an excellent stage presence and can entertain. This band is going places. Catch them while you can; next time it will likely be at a large venue for much, much, more. Select Smart and Colorslide will open the evening.
Thursday 4/28
Ryan Montbleau – Pourhouse (Indie/Alt/Jam) — 9 p.m. | $12
New England born and bred, this musician got his start playing at coffee shops and small venues in and around the suburbs of Boston. This led to a formation of a band and more recognition as well as a gravitation toward Jam/Funk and Indie, which led to a record deal and national tours. Ryan is an excellent vocalist with quite a range that is not only powerful, but clear. Coupled with a great supporting cast of a band, his music is clear, enjoyable and very well received. If you like Martin Sexton, you will love his music.
The Bottle Rockets w/ Rayland Baxter – The Berkeley Cafe (Americana/ Rock) — 8 p.m. | $15
All the way from St. Louis and nationally acclaimed, The Berk is in for a great night of Honky Tonk to start the weekend off a little early. This band is known for a laid back style of Rock, with hints of swamp and Americana mixed in. Lots of catchy tunes solid musicianship and you can expect a great crowd.
