Elaine Marshall beat out her rivals to face Richard Burr this November, but she did not break the 40 percent mark necessary to avoid a runoff. Marshall received 36 percent of the vote, her closest competitor Cal Cunningham got 27 percent.
Turnout for the statewide election, with about 96 percent of precincts reporting as of 10:30 p.m. was 14 percent. Wake County voters turned out at about the same rate as last November, 11.5 percent.
Wake Board of Commissioners
Philip Matthews won the Republican primary to face incumbent Lindy Brown for a seat on the Wake County Board of Commissioners.
US House of Representatives District 2
Renee Elmers took more than 56 percent of the vote to challenge incumbent Rep. Bob Etheridge this fall.
US House of Representatives District 4
Republican William Lawson will go up against incumbent David Price in November.
US House of Representatives District 13
The Republican primary for District 13 is where it gets complicated. Bill Randall and Bernie Reeves are separated by less than one percent. The News and Observer is reporting that Reeves plans to file for a runoff. The winner will face Rep. Brad Miller in the fall.
NC House of Representatives District 41
Tom Murray, a town councilor from Morrisville, won the Republican primary to face off against Democratic incumbent Chris Heagarty.
NC House of Representatives District 34
Republican Steve Henion won the District 34 primary handily and will face incumbent Grier Martin, who has held the seat for three terms, this fall.
NC House of Representatives District 33
Incumbent Democrat Rosa Gill with face off against Republican Paul Terrell for the seath that covers East and Southeast Raleigh.
