The Raleigh Racquet Club is reassessing its efforts to develop 16 acres off Falls of Neuse Road.
Ashton Woods Homes and the Raleigh Racquet Club filed a request in December to rezone the parcel from R-6 to R-4 with plans to build a 64-home subdivision behind the Millbrook Estates neighborhood.
Neighbors have argued the plans need revision because the exclusive entrance to the proposed development was Cypress Lane — one of two roads residents use to access Millbrook Estates.
Residents have voiced their concerns to both the Raleigh Racquet Club and the city of Raleigh and, as of Tuesday, the racquet club is withdrawing its petition to rezone the property in preparation for development.
According to a letter sent to residents from Beth Trahos, the attorney representing the developers, “Ashton Woods homes remains interested in the property . . . and intends to re-file the case in March.”
The delay, Trahos continued, “will allow us additional time to study and respond to issues raised by the community.”
Though Trahos stated Ashton Woods Homes and the Raleigh Racquet Club want to continue a dialogue with surrounding residents, Millbrook Estates resident spokesperson Mariah Matheson said, “they have yet to contact us about any of our concerns.”
The rezoning case was due to go before the North Raleigh Citizens Advisory Council meeting Thursday night, but was removed from the agenda. Upon re-filing for a new rezoning request, the North Raleigh CAC will offer its recommendation to the Raleigh Planning Board.
