A Democratic candidate for the U.S. House District 2 seat has withdrawn from the race.

James Bibbs said he is leaving the race due to a health issue in the family.
“As a husband and father I cannot fully commit to a campaign at 100 percent as well as to my family in this situation,” he wrote in an e-mail announcing the decision. “I want to thank all of those who have encouraged me and offered your support through this process.”
Bibbs is a human resources specialist from Pittsboro. He did not give further details about the medical issue, or mention who in his family was afflicted. He asked people to respect his privacy during this time.
“When the time is right we will address publicly,” he wrote. “I am confident that there are two strong Democratic candidates in this race who are more than capable of defeating Renee Ellmers in November.”
This leaves two candidates in the Democratic primary: Toni Morris and Stephen Wilkins. On the Republican side, incumbent Renee Ellmers will face Sonya Holmes, Clement Munno and Richard Speer.
The primary election is May 8.
