Record Hosts Second Annual Oak City Bard Brawl

Six bards will be spinning yarns during the Raleigh Public Record’s second annual “Oak City Bard Brawl” competition.

WUNC’s Frank Stasio will emcee the competition, a fierce storytelling showdown between last year’s champion and five other storytellers, selected during the qualifying round last fall.

Only one will be crowned King of the Bards.

Competitors have eight minutes to tell an original story about Raleigh, without notes or props. Judges will select two finalists, who will face off in a sudden death storytelling showdown. The winner will earn Sir Walter Raleigh’s plumed hat along with other prizes.

The Bard Brawl takes place at 7 p.m. April 9 at Kings Barcade, 14 W. Martin St. in Raleigh. Tickets are $10 at the door, and all proceeds support the nonprofit Record.
