Candidate filing begins Monday for the 2014 Primary Election. Wake County voters will pick a sheriff, district attorney, as well as Senators and House Representatives at the federal and state level.
The Primary Election is May 6. Several local officials announced they plan to run again. District Attorney, C. Colon Willoughby will step down from office, having served seven terms since he was appointed as acting District Attorney in 1983.
Wake County Clerk of Court Nancy “Lorrin” Freeman, a Democrat, announced she will run for Wake County District Attorney.
Sheriff Donnie Harrison will be running for his fourth term in office, having served since 2002. Democrat Willie Row also intends to run for sheriff after an early retirement from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
Four County Commissioners’ seats will be open. District 1 is currently held by Republican Joe Bryan, elected in 2002. District 2 is represented by Republican Phil Matthews, Chair, elected in 2010. District 3 represented by Republican Tony Curly, Vice Chair, serving since 2002. Finally, District 7 is held by Republican Paul Coble, elected in 2006.
