Members of the Raleigh City Council approved an additional $15,000 from their contingency fund for the Raleigh City Museum this week. They also voted to go ahead with a new greenway partnership with Wake County along the Neuse River.
The Lower Neuse Greenway Trail will extend from Poole Road in Raleigh to the Johnston County line. The county will cover the costs for design, land and construction for the section of the trail outside Raleigh and the city will assume responsibility for managing and maintaining the trail.
City regulations, such as the smoking ban, will not apply to parts of the new greenway outside of Raleigh’s city limits.

Museum funding
The city is chipping in an additional $15,000 to help the Raleigh City Museum get through the rest of this fiscal year. The museum faces a $30,000 shortfall for the year and will have to raise the rest of the money to match the city funds.
Councilors also voted to approve creating an advisory group to review the long-term operations and funding of the museum. The eight-member group will include representatives from the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the museum’s board and two council appointees.
The museum, which occupies the ground floor of the Briggs Building on Fayetteville Street downtown, ran into trouble earlier this year when the A.J. Fletcher Foundation moved out and they had to repair an air conditioner.
The museum is a joint owner of the building and gets more than half of its annual $300,000 budget from the city.
