Three Raleigh-based nonprofits will receive additional funding this year.
City Councilors Tuesday voted to approve funding of Community Enhancement Grants for Green Chair, Step-Up Ministry and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
Green Chair was awarded $35,000. The organization said it will use the funding for operations, outreach, and expansion to help with furnishings and household items for people moving from temporary housing to permanent homes.
Step-Up Ministry will use the $16,326 they were awarded for their Life Skills Housing Program, providing job training and placement, academic tutoring and life skills training.
Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s funding will go toward their Culinary Jobs Training Program that includes a paid internship. The organization was also awarded $16,326.
Grants were originally given out in the fall. Staff then evaluated the program to see if there were additional funds that could be given to organizations that did not receive funding. Staff found an additional $67,752 that could be awarded.
Due to a clerical error, Green Chair did not receive the funding that they were eligible for so staff awarded the organization the full amount it requested.
Four City Lots For Sale
Councilors also approved the sale of four lots by the Community Development Department.
The four lots approved for sale are 417 Alston and 405 Camden streets, 805 Walser Place and 412 Montague Lane. The Budget and Economic Development Committee will decide on the sale of the remaining six lots at a later date.
The Community Development Department will release a request for proposal for the lots.
