The city has hired three new assistant city managers.
City Manager Ruffin Hall has been working to reorganize the hierarchy of city staffing since he was hired last fall. Assistant City Manager Dan Howe is retiring this month after almost 30 years with the city.
James Simpson Greene, Jr. will become Assistant City Manager for Economic Development. Greene was previously the Deputy Manager for the City of Concord, N.C. This position will be responsible for the Planning and Development Department, Raleigh Convention Center and Office of Economic Development. He will be paid $170,000 per year.
Marchell Adams-David will serve as the Assistant City Manager for Community. Adams-David is the former Hamlet, N.C. city manager. This position will oversee police, fire, emergency communications, the parks department, the newly formed Housing and Neighborhoods Department and the Office of Emergency Management. Her salary is $157,500.
Hailing from the west coast, Tansy Hayward will be the Assistant City Manager for Services. Hayward was previously the assistant city manager for Tacoma, Wash. The assistant city manager for services will be responsible for public utilities, public works, solid waste services, the Office of Internal Audit and the Office of Sustainability. She will be paid $160,000 per year.
All three managers will start by the end of August.
