Residents are invited to stop by a second planning and information session Wednesday for the future Union Station. The design team will unveil more details of the downtown transit station and some street changes around the Warehouse District.
The city, Triangle Transit and the North Carolina Department of Transportation are working to create a new multi-modal transit station using the Dillon Supply Warehouse building at 510 W. Martin St. Funding for the first stage of design is provided by a grant from the Federal Railroad Administration.
During the first information session, designers showed residents conceptual drawings of the station’s layout and invited residents to give feedback.
This time, the team will share that input and some updated drawings based on that feedback.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at CAM Raleigh, 409 W. Martin St. The event begins with a presentation at 6, followed by an open session during which residents can approach work stations and ask questions or comment on various aspects of the project.
Craig Newton, facilities engineer with the NC DOT rail division, said the design team is asking for more public input so they can put the entire project together by early July.
Representatives from the NC DOT and the city will be available at Wednesday’s session to answer questions. Residents who cannot attend may send in feedback to unionstation@clearscapes.com.
Residents who attend Wednesday’s session will also have the chance to learn more about the City of Raleigh’s West Street Extension Project and the South Street/Lenoir Street project.
The West Street Extension project is a proposed connection between the north and south sections of West Street and to close the existing at-grade crossing of the railroad at West Cabarrus Street. The South Street/Lenoir Street Project proposes to convert portions of the streets from one-way to two-way traffic and includes of other streetscape improvements.
