Department Reports

Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Report- Center staff reported on upcoming Parks and Recreation events. The Raleigh Ollie Community Day event will be held at Marsh Creek Center on April 26th from 11:00 am- 2:00 pm. They are currently accepting applications for their soccer and baseball leagues for children 11- 12 years old. Police Report- Officer Porter gave the crime report for the the last 28 days. He stated there have been an increase in the amount of vehicle break ins in the area.

August 8, 2013

A meeting of the Northeast Citizens Advisory Council (NECAC) was held on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Marsh Creek Community Center, 3050 New Hope Road, Raleigh. Chairperson Michi Vojta presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:06pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Heather O’Brien outlined various activities currently underway and upcoming. Among the new activities starting in September are African dance classes on Saturdays and new exercise classes.

December 12, 2013

A meeting of the Northeast Citizens Advisory Council (NECAC) was held on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the Marsh Creek Community Center, 3050 New Hope Road, Raleigh. Chairperson Michi Vojta called the meeting to order at 7:08 pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Heather O’Brien, Marsh Creek Parks and Recreation Supervisor, reported that the winter Leisure Ledger (January-April) was available and noted some of the opportunities available, including art classes and fitness programs. Zumba and adult basketball are currently underway; Junior basketball will begin in January. Housing and Neighborhood Preservation:   Chris Boyd, City of Raleigh Inspector, Housing & Environment Division, discussed some of the issues he addresses as City of Raleigh Inspector. Recent issues involved home repairs/vacant houses and fences on homeowner property perimeters.

A meeting of the Northeast Citizens Advisory Council (NECAC) was held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Marsh Creek Community Center, 3050 New Hope Road, Raleigh. In the absence of the First Vice Chair Christopher Allen, Second Vice Chair Paul Brant presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Jud Dunlevy reported that the baseball season was underway; basketball registration is open; skateboard activities are planned to begin this summer; active adult program being developed and suggestions still welcome; dance and fitness class currently available; line dancing being considered; soccer program is being developed. Volunteers are being sought to monitor the Raleigh Greenway system.

New Hope/Buffalo Small Area Plan Meeting

First draft was represented with instructions to links online for community input until February 6th. Questions and comments from the residents expressed concern about online access, transparency, final language, and additional input once report has been developed into a final draft. Report intent is to capture and reinforce ideas from the community reflecting points of views that could be added to the Comprehensive Plan 2030 as a guide in developing Buffalo and New Hope Roads corner properties.

A meeting of the Northeast Citizens Advisory Council (NECAC) was held on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at the Marsh Creek Community Center, 3050 New Hope Road, Raleigh. Vice-Chairperson Lillian Thompson presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:08pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Jud Dunlevy reported on various activities currently underway and upcoming. Among the new activities starting in September are Insanity® (an adult cardio-based body conditional program for all fitness levels), youth dance classes, art classes for all ages, youth basketball, etc.

Department Reports
Police: Officer George Porter from Crime Prevention presented with Lieutenant DD Knuckles in attendance spoke of opening a new center on May 17th at the Mini-City location. Available outreach programs are available in collaboration with Parks and Recreation. The upcoming National Night Out (first Tuesday in August) involving community Crime Watch groups are encouraged to get involved by contacting him for more information at (919) 796-9653 or email George.porter@raleighnc.gov . On vehicle break-in: reports state that 97% affected were unlocked. On Greenways: ‘please’ stay on greenway paths were there are police call boxes for your safety
Parks and Recreation: Heather O’Brien noted that Pullen Park is competing as ‘A Great Place’ as contender for statewide recognition.
