Raleigh transportation planners are coming up with alternate ideas to improve the city’s transit. The plans follow a vote by the Wake County Commission not to put a voter referendum on the November ballot for a half-cent sales tax increase to pay for a transit plan.
Raleigh city councilors are urging Wake County Commissioners to include a half-cent sales tax increase to fund transit improvements. In other news, the Raleigh Times Bar is expanding with the help of a city backed loan, Northeast Raleigh is getting a new park and an affordable housing community and Lake Wheeler Road improvements were approved at the City Council meeting on Monday.
Raleigh’s Passenger Rail Task Force has suggested a combination of two routes for the proposed light rail system downtown but city staff and the Triangle Transit Authority prefer a different plan.
Triangle Transit officials are working toward this vision, called the Triangle Regional Transit Program. Starting next week, the public will get a chance to weigh in on the latest plans for a light and commuter rail systems along with improved bus routes.
