A meeting of the Northeast Citizens Advisory Council (NECAC) was held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at the Marsh Creek Community Center, 3050 New Hope Road, Raleigh. In the absence of the First Vice Chair Christopher Allen, Second Vice Chair Paul Brant presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Jud Dunlevy reported that the baseball season was underway; basketball registration is open; skateboard activities are planned to begin this summer; active adult program being developed and suggestions still welcome; dance and fitness class currently available; line dancing being considered; soccer program is being developed. Volunteers are being sought to monitor the Raleigh Greenway system.

New Hope/Buffalo Small Area Plan Meeting
First draft was represented with instructions to links online for community input until February 6th. Questions and comments from the residents expressed concern about online access, transparency, final language, and additional input once report has been developed into a final draft. Report intent is to capture and reinforce ideas from the community reflecting points of views that could be added to the Comprehensive Plan 2030 as a guide in developing Buffalo and New Hope Roads corner properties.

Vice-Chairperson Lillian Thompson presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:08pm. Parks and Recreation Report: Jud Dunlevy reported on various activities currently underway and upcoming. Among the new activities starting in September are Insanity® (an adult cardio-based body conditional program for all fitness levels), youth dance classes, art classes for all ages, youth basketball, etc.

Police: Officer George Porter from Crime Prevention presented with Lieutenant DD Knuckles in attendance spoke of opening a new center on May 17th at the Mini-City location. Available outreach programs are available in collaboration with Parks and Recreation. The upcoming National Night Out (first Tuesday in August) involving community Crime Watch groups are encouraged to get involved by contacting him for more information at (919) 796-9653 or email George.porter@raleighnc.gov . On vehicle break-in: reports state that 97% affected were unlocked. On Greenways: ‘please’ stay on greenway paths were there are police call boxes for your safety

Parks and Recreation Report: Jud Dunlevy reported that they were planning a community event in September with various fun activities going on – details at later. He talked about other opportunities available at the Marsh Creek Parks & Recreation facility, including summer basketball, various other summer camps, including summer camp for 5-year-old children only.
Basketball league sign-ups have begun for players 5-18 and need volunteer coaches especially for 7-8 year olds. Sign up for youth ended October 10th yet coaches are still needed and can contact closet community center including Marsh Creek. ‘Coats for cause’ initiative annual giving of ‘gently used coats’ to young people sponsored by Top Greene and Sgt. Courtney Johnson Centers. Drop off at any community center. Marsh Creek Hours are M-F 7am to 9pm, Sat.

Police Report: Lieutenant Dana Knuckles reported that there were no updates on the break-ins discussed at the last meeting (Cardinal Hills/Kyle Drive area), and she asked if there were more comments about the application to open a pawn shop (2657 Appliance Ct, former Perkins on Capital Blvd). She shared flyers of the WATCH FOR ME NC campaign to reduce pedestrian / biking fatalities.
