Saint Saviour’s Center, 616 Tucker Street, RaleighWake Relief is an all volunteer ecumenical organization committed to providing emergency food for Wake County residents in need. Established in 1975, it is open every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and one Saturday a month, in the basement of St. Saviour’s Center, at 616 Tucker Street in the Glenwood South District.

The food relief is made possible by in-kind and monetary donations from area churches, community organizations, schools and individuals. A week’s supply of nutritionally adequate food, with fresh produce provided by Interfaith Food Shuttle, is distributed according to family size. Recipients must have a referral, and they may receive food every 60 days if referred from Wake County Human Services, or once a year if referred by another organization. These recipients are informed that they may return in 60 days with a WCHS referral.

Approximately 85 regular volunteers staff the operation. In 2008 Wake Relief served 5,250 people. In these tough economic times the number served is expected to trend upward, so volunteers are always welcome!
