Mission

Downtown Raleigh’s streetscapes are important for the livability of the downtown area.  The DLA Streetscape Committee addresses streetscape issues and opportunities in downtown Raleigh. Streetscapes are defined as the area between the building facades.  It is important for the districts of downtown to have defined streetscape characters that relate to the uses adjacent to the street. Typical streetscape standards may address unifying design features for sidewalks, paving, curbing, street  trees, building facades, setbacks, vehicular parking areas, building heights, bicycle parking, signage, awnings, street furniture, overhead utilities, streetlights, and other elements that define the street character.

Committee Meetings & Events

The Streetscape Committee is actively evaluating the streetscapes in downtown by holding walking tours of the downtown districts.  We then recommend opportunities for improvement and advocate for the maintenance of the existing streetscape features.

Committee events are listed on the DLA Event Calendar.

Committee Advisor

Kimberly and her 3 dogs live in the Thompson Hunter neighborhood on the east side of downtown Raleigh.  Kimberly has been practicing land planning for the past 12 years.  Kimberly is a registered landscape architect in the state of North Carolina and started her own landscape architecture and land planning firm in 2005.  She is also an adjunct professor in the College of Design at NC State.  The class Kimberly is co-teaching this spring semester teaches designers to understand how spaces created by urban environments shape our behavior and direct our activities.
