Thousands make themselves sick for the Children’s Hospital

More than 7,000 people registered to run in Saturday morning’s annual Krispy Kreme Challenge. The race consists of running from the NC State Univesity Bell Tower to the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts store on Person Street, eat a dozen donuts and then returning to the Bell Tower.

What the runners left behind at the Krispy Kreme store probably tells the whole story.

After eating their dozen donuts the empty boxes were tossed aside, some into a huge pile and others were tossed all over Person St. For those who did not eat their entire dozen, sad glazed donuts lay in the street. The drive-through store turned into a “run thru” store which combined with the rain made for a huge mess.

All proceeds from the race went to the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
