The first weekend of the N.C. State Fair brought out the crowds, with hundreds of thousands of people turning out to enjoy the favorite sights, smells, sounds and of course, tastes. A sample of the afternoon fun on Sunday:

- A man demonstrates the practice of blacksmithing at one of the fair exhibits.

- Fans cheer loudly for the pig races. The winning pig gets to nosh on a handful of cheese puffs.
