Storm Cleanup Continues

The sound of chainsaws chopping up downed trees is ubiquitous in areas of Raleigh hit hardest by Saturday’s storm. Meanwhile, the Raleigh Police Department Tuesday began allowing residents of Stony Brook North trailer park to return to their homes.

Raleigh Could Get Agreement on Moore Square Plan

The Raleigh City Council may be able to strike a deal with the state to move ahead with the Moore Square redesign. Councilors also approved parking changes, two bonds for the October ballot and ended sidewalk assessments.

UDO Day 11: A Mixed Bag of Mixed Use

Last week, we skipped ahead to Chapter 11 so we could learn who’s in charge of making all of these decisions, but today we’re back to the beginning and taking a look at Chapter 3, which deals with mixed-use districts.

UDO Day 10: What’s missing and learning more

The last two days we paused in our cover-to-cover read of the new Unified Development Ordinance to jump ahead and look at the changing duties for city staff. There’s one more question we should answer before we get back to reading through the UDO: What’s missing?

Front Yard Parking Debate Continues

A proposed ordinance would require all new construction to have a designated parking area made of a non-erodible material that is no more than 40 percent of the front lot or 425 square feet – whichever is greater – and some kind of screening along the facing property line, such as hedges. While this part of the regulation would be enacted citywide, individual neighborhoods could apply for an overlay district that would make the ordinance retroactive in their area.
