Council bans smoking in parks

Raleigh city councilors voted Tuesday to limit smoking in parks. The council voted 6-2 to approve the ban, with John Odom and Thomas Crowder voting against.

The fairly young group, made up primarily of women, gave away $25,000 in grants to two Raleigh-based charities this year. Catholic Charities and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle were the recipients of the 2010 grant, which was voted on by the 43-member hive.

School board agrees to accreditation investigation

The Wake County Board of Education did not put a unanimous stamp this morning on its decision to let AdvancEd, Wake’s high school accrediting authority, proceed with its investigation in February. But board members did vote 6-2 to cooperate with the investigation.
