Raleigh City Councilors have started discussing the merits and problems with using performance-based standards for development in the watershed for the city’s drinking water.
As the city continues to expand, so does the pressure to develop in the region’s most sensitive areas.
Planning Commissioners Tuesday recommended denial of a controversial rezoning request in the Falls Lake Watershed. They also voted to approve plans for a new parking deck at Rex Hospital and an Enterprise Car Sales on Glenwood Avenue.
The North Carolina General Assembly eliminated tax credits and other funding to protect land in watersheds. The City of Raleigh and its partners are working to figure out new solutions to protect drinking water supplies from pollution.
