Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood celebrated its second annual Samedi Gras Saturday. “Samedi” means Saturday in French, just as “mardi” means Tuesday.

A groundbreaking took place Saturday for the new Chavis Carousel House at Chavis Park. The new building will house Chavis Park’s Historic Allan Herschell Carousel. The project is expected to be complete in late fall 2012.
Thousands of runners participated in the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge Saturday, scarfing down a dozen doughnuts in the middle of a five-mile jog. The event raises thousands of dollars for the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
